From agentic AI to digital product development, NRF 2026 showed how retail is changing now
What We Saw at NRF 2026
More than 40,000 retail professionals from around the world gathered in New York for NRF 2026, Retail’s Big Show. Over three busy days at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, attendees explored new technology, watched live demos, and exchanged ideas that are shaping the future of retail. Attendees met their daily step goals just by walking the expo floor, moving from booth to booth and session to session.
The conversations were practical, grounded, and focused on action. NRF 2026 made one thing clear. The future of retail is already in motion.
The Next Now in Retail
This year’s NRF theme, “The Next Now,” resonated across the show floor. The focus was not on distant innovation, but on tools retailers can use today. Speed, adaptability, and smarter decision making are no longer optional. They are essential to competing in a complex retail landscape.
Retail digital transformation is no longer a long-term initiative. It is happening in real-time, driven by better data, tighter system integration, and more intelligent workflows.
AI in Retail 2026 Takes Center Stage
AI was everywhere at NRF 2026. More importantly, the conversation has evolved. Retailers are no longer debating whether AI belongs in their business. They are focused on how to apply it responsibly and effectively.
Retail AI trends now focus on responsive AI in retail. These systems help teams, automate routine tasks, and adjust to real-world conditions. Agentic AI stood out as a practical tool that supports daily decision making rather than abstract experimentation.
AI in Product Development and PLM
One of the strongest themes was the use of AI in product development. Brands are using AI to improve speed, reduce manual effort, and gain clearer visibility across the product lifecycle.
AI enabled PLM and digital product development tools are helping teams connect design, sourcing, compliance, and production. These platforms provide create a single source of truth. They help teams react quickly to changes while keeping accuracy and control.
Why NRF Still Matters
NRF remains valuable because ideas travel freely. Conversations happen in sessions, on the expo floor, and during spontaneous demos. Retail leaders openly share what works, what does not, and where they see opportunity.
Equally important is the chance to reconnect in person. Conversations with peers, partners, and longtime colleagues often deliver insights that no presentation can replace.
Looking Ahead
NRF 2026 confirmed that AI driven workflows and integrated systems are becoming the foundation of modern retail. Data led decisions, responsive AI, and connected platforms are shaping how brands operate today. At DeSL, we left NRF energized and aligned with where the industry is heading. The Next Now is about turning innovation into action. NRF reinforced the importance of having the right digital foundation to support that transformation.
